Macau’s visitor arrivals in June recorded a 7.6 percent year-on-year and 11.8 percent month-to- month decline to 2.24 million, the worst number since September 2012, the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said Thursday in the latest press release.

Visitors from the mainland who accounted for over 60 percent of the total decreased by 10.1 percent to 1.43 million, those traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme dropped by 4.2 percent as well, according to DSEC data.

Most Asian countries or regions recorded year-on-year fall in visitor arrivals in June. Visitors from Taiwan, South Korea and India decreased by 5.9 percent, 24.8 percent and 3.3 percent respectively year-on-year, while those from Hong Kong and the Philippines increased by 2.0 percent and 6.5 percent, DSEC figure indicated.

DSEC data showed that long-haul visitors from Canada and Britain registered year-on-year increase, whereas those from the United States and Australia saw decline.

In the first half year of 2015, visitor arrivals totaled 14.75 million, down by 3.5 percent year-on-year. Overnight visitors decreased by 6.6 percent to 6.61 million. (macaunews/xinhua)
