Macau, China, 26 Jul – Macau’s number of visitor arrivals in June fell to its lowest monthly figure so far this year, according to figures released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) last Friday.

A total of 1.90 million visitors arrived in Macau last month, a decrease of 9.2 percent from the previous month when the arrival number stood at 2.09 million.

According to Macau Post Daily, June was the first month this year when the number of monthly visitor arrivals dropped under the two million threshold.

However, the number of arrivals in June was up 30.6 percent on the same month of last year, when Macau ‘s tourism industry was adversely affected by the H1N1 flu scare.

Same-day visitor accounted for 51.7 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals in June, including 514,827 Chinese mainlanders.

In June, mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 51.7 percent and 29.9 percent of all visitor arrivals respectively. While the mainland visitor segments rose 44.7 percent, Hong Kong’s was up 15.7 percent.

The number of visitor arrival from India rose 62.9 percent year-on-year to 25,192, the number of arrivals from Vietnam grew 98.7 percent to 10,661, and the number of Japanese arrivals increased 70.5 percent to 32,126 in June.

Meanwhile, the number of visitor arrivals in the first half of this year grew 17.9 percent year-on-year to 12.2 million.

In the first six month, 52 percent of all visitors arrived by land via Zhuhai, 41.2 percent arrived by sea from Hong Kong and Guangdong , and just 6.8 percent arrived by plane or helicopter.
