Macau, China, 30 Dec – Macau’s skyline was ranked 20th in a list of 100 cities all over the world that was released by Emporis, a Frankfurt-based global provider of building-related information, this week, The Macau Post Daily reports today.

According to the listing, Macau has 564 high-rise buildings, with a total of 5,211 points.

Hong Kong leads with list with 7,688 high-rise buildings and 128,635 points, followed by New York City and Chicago , Singapore , Sao Paulo , Seoul , Dubai , Shanghai , Bangkok and Tokyo . The last on the 100-city list is Kolkata with 407 high-rise buildings but just 893 points.

The company’s data base lists 76 skyscrapers in Macau . Emporis defines a skyscraper as a multi-story building whose architectural height is at least 100 metres. Hong Kong is listed with 1,306 skyscrapers – more than any other city in the world. Macau ranks 56th among the world’s 100 cities with the most skyscrapers.

According to the German company’s website, “the listing ranks cities by the visual impact of their skylines.” The list is drawn entirely from data collected by the company, and reflects only completed high-rise buildings as defined by the Emporis Standards Committee.

Each building is assigned points based on its floor count. For instance, a building comprising 12 to 19 floors gets one point. A building with 100 or more points is given 600 points.

The company defines a high-rise building as a structure whose architectural height is between 35 and 100 metres. A structure is automatically listed as a high-rise when it has a minimum of 12 floors, whether or not the height is known. If it has fewer than 40 floors and the height is unknown, it is also classified automatically as a high-rise.(MacauNews/Tourism)
