Macau hotel guests fall 7.6 pct to 4.9 million in H1

Macau’s number of hotel guests fell 7.6 percent year-on-year to 4.9 million in the first half of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

In June, the number of hotel guests dropped 1.9 percent year-on-year to 859,000.

Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 60.3 percent and 16.2 percent of hotel guests in June respectively.

At the end of June, the city’s 102 hotels and guesthouses provided 30,000 guestrooms, up 7.2 percent year-on-year. Five-star hotels accounted for two thirds of the room supply.

Guests stayed for an average of 1.4 nights, unchanged from June last year.
The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses dropped 10.6 percent points year-on-year to 73.9 percent in June.

Meanwhile, the number of package tour visitors decreased 17.5 percent year-on-year to 707,000 in June. The number of package tour visitors from South Korea crashed 42.2 percent to 16,400 in June.
