Macau, China, 16 Aug – Macau’s hospitality industry logged a record 3,988,791 guests in the first half of this year, an increase of five percent over the same period of last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Monday.

Hotels’ average occupancy rate in the first six months stood at 82 percent, up 3.3 percent from a year earlier.

At the end of June, the total number of hotel guestrooms stood at 21,676, up 10.8 percent year-on-year. Five-star hotels accounted for 62.6 percent of all guestrooms.

In June, the number of hotel guests – including those staying in guesthouses – amounted to a record 704,464, up 16.9 percent from the same month of last year.

Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 51.8 percent and 20.4 percent of all guests, respectively. Guests’ average length of stay remained basically unchanged at just 1.4 nights.

Hotel guests made up 32.3 percent of all visitor arrivals in June.

Meanwhile, the number of package-tour visitors increased 20.9 percent year-on-year to 591,164 in June. Mainlanders accounted for 73.7 percent of all package-tour visitors.

Package-tour visitors accounted for 27.1 percent of all visitor arrivals in June.
