Macau’s 100 hotels and inns recorded 7.02 million guests in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 11.5 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Wednesday.

In September, the number of guests rose 11.9 percent year-on-year to 785,170.

Guests’ average length of stay dropped by 0.18 of a night to 1.3 nights in September, when the hospitality industry’s average occupancy rate stood at 81 percent.

The number of hotel and inn rooms rose by 3,704 (+16.6 percent) year-on-year to 26,083 at the end of September. Guestrooms in 5-star hotels accounted for 63.9 percent of the total.

In September, hotel and inn guests accounted for 36 percent of all visitor arrivals in that month.

Meanwhile, the Statistics and Census Bureau said earlier that Macau’s population rose to 576,700 at the end of September. The figure included 109,038 non-resident workers, mostly mainlanders, Filipinos, Hongkongers, Indonesians, Vietnamese and Nepalese.(macaunews)
