The average room occupancy rate of Macau’s hotels and guesthouses fell to 11.6 per cent between February 1-14, Ines Chan Lou, head of the Licensing and Inspection Department of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), said on Tuesday.
Chan revealed the figure during the daily press conference by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.
The number of hotels and guesthouses closed in response to the novel coronavirus threat stood at 29 on Saturday.
The average room occupancy rate of Macau’s 123 hotels and guesthouses stood at 90.8 per cent last year, according to DSEC data. The number of hotel and guesthouse guests rose 1.1 per cent year-on-year to 14.1 per cent last year.
Officials at the press conference also revealed that Macau recorded 4,300 visitor arrivals on Monday, an increase of 53 per cent from the previous day. The average number of daily visitor arrivals in December (the last available official data) stood at 99,464.
