Macau’s 97 hotels – including hostels – recorded 3.7 million guests in the first five months, an increase of 12.7 percent on the same period last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

The average occupancy rate stood at 81.9 percent, similar to the same period a year earlier.

The number of guestrooms rose 12.1 percent to 24,117 at the end of May. Guestrooms in 5-star hotels accounted for 61.1 percent of the total number.

Hotel guests accounted for 32.3 percent of all visitor arrivals in the first five months.

In May, the hospitality industry received 754,375 guests, up 9.4 percent year-on-year.

The average length of stay fell by 0.1 of a night to 1.4 nights. May’s average occupancy was down by 3.8 percentage points year-on-year to 78.1 percent.(Macaunews)
