The number of hotel guests dropped four percent year-on-year to 863,000 in June, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Wednesday.

Some 59 percent of all guests stayed at 5-star hotels.

Guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged at just 1.3 nights.

The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses rose four percentage points year-on-year to 85 percent, with 5-star hotels leading at 86 percent.

There were 99 hotels and guesthouses in business at the end of last month, providing 28,000 guestrooms, down one percent year-on-year. About two thirds of all guestrooms were provided by 5-star hotels.

Macau’s hospitality industry welcomed 5.3 million guests in the first half of the year, an increase of just one percent.

The number of guests accounted for 34.7 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals in January-June.(macaunews/macaupost)
