Senior officials from Hong Kong and Macau said Wednesday that the two cities were willing to strengthen co-operation to promote their so-called “‘one trip multiple stops” joint tourism product.

Hong Kong’s Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor was in Macau Wednesday to pay a courtesy call on Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U.

According to an informed source, during a one-hour lunch, Chui and Lam briefed each other on the latest tourism developments in the two cities and both believe that they can co-operate more to promote Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau “multi-stop visits” as a joint tourism product.

Lam also had a 30-minute meeting with Cheong at Government House, according to The Macau Post Daily.

Lam told reporters after the meeting both agreed that Hong Kong and Macau needed to strengthen co-operation, particularly in tourism.

Lam pointed out that since an international cruise terminal at Hong Kong’s former Kai Tak airport will get off the ground in the middle of next year, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau should strengthen tourism co-operation, adding that the “one trip, multi stops” tourism product would promote overseas and mainland tourists’ visits to Macau after arriving in Hong Kong.

Lam and her small entourage visited several casino-hotel resorts and convention facilities before her departure to Hong Kong late yesterday afternoon.(macaunews)
