The Maritime Administration (CP) said in a statement Monday that it plans to start an “individual travel” scheme for yachts from Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong to travel among the three places easily.
Maritime Administration Director Susana Wong Soi Man said in the statement that her office would study the related regulations for the matter with its counterparts in Guangdong and Hong Kong.
The statement was issued after a meeting with several representatives from the Macau Japan Chamber of Commerce to discuss issues related to shipping, ferry operations and policies on the planned “individual travel” scheme for yachts.
Wong also pointed out in the statement that the government will seek a suitable location to build more berths if there are not enough for non-local yachts after the “individual travel” yacht scheme is launched.
The statement did not say when the trilateral scheme would get off the ground.
A spokesperson for the Maritime Administration told The Macau Post Daily that the local government was discussing the matter with its counterparts in Guangdong and Hong Kong, adding that the matter was still in a preliminary stage.
“The Macau government has already made it easy for non-local yachts to dock in the harbour and we hope the other two places will do the same as Macau,” the spokesperson said, adding that an average of 100 non-local yachts entered Macau every year, most of them from Hong Kong.
According to the spokesperson, berths are available in two locations – the peninsula’s Fai Chi Kei North Bay and Cheoc Van Beach in Coloane island.(macaunews)
