The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) clarified on Thursday its official statistics on the number of visitor arrivals in the mainland’s National Day Golden Week holiday from October 1-7.

According to the adjusted figures, based on data provided by the Public Security Police (PSP), the number of Golden Week visitor arrivals reached 770,000, an increase of 19 per cent year-on-year.

The number of visitor arrivals from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan rose 19 per cent to 720,000, accounting for 94 per cent of the total number during the week-long holiday.

While the number of visitors from the mainland and Hong Kong rose 17 and 30 per cent respectively, the number of visitors from Taiwan was up 9 per cent.

The number of foreign visitor arrivals reached 47,000, an increase of 20 per cent year-on-year.

The office pointed out that earlier statistics on the number of “visitor” arrivals included non-resident workers and non-locals studying in Macau.

MGTO will be officially known in English as Macao Government Tourism Office, the government announced also on Thursday. The by-law will take effect in November 1.
