Over 1.24 million border-crossings, comprising local residents and tourists, have been recorded over the first four days of the eight-day long Golden Week holiday, data released by the Public Security Police (PSP) showed Wednesday.

Macau has about 560,000 inhabitants.

This year’s Golden Week holiday for mainlanders to celebrate National Day includes an extra day because Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated on Sunday, the day before National Day.

According to the PSP figures cited by The Macau Post Daily today, the border checkpoints Wednesday recorded 117,042 inbound travellers from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, while the figure for the four days from Sunday was 404,527

Mainlanders made up the majority of the visitor arrivals, with Wednesday’s figure standing at 101,350.

A PSP spokesperson last week forecast three million border crossings for the whole Golden Week period.(macaunews)
