Macau recorded 920,631 visitor arrivals during the mainland’s eight-day National Day/Mid-Autumn Festival Golden Week holiday on October 1-8, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement Monday.

The statement pointed out that due to the fact that National Day on October 1 and the Mid-Autumn Festival on October 4 took place in the same week, the Golden Week this year lasted eight days, whereas last year’s had a duration of seven days.

Compared to the October 1-7 period last year, the number of visitor arrivals rose 11.6 percent, from 756,670 to 844,522.

Mainlanders accounted for 75.7 percent of all visitor arrivals in the first eight days of the month.

According to the statement, Macau’s five-star hotels reported an average occupancy rate of 97.6 percent on October 1-7, an increase of 3.2 percentage points year on year.

The number of guest rooms available during the Golden Week stood at 37,678, according to hospitality industry data cited by the MGTO statement.

In the October 1-7 period, the hospitality sector’s average room rate stood at 1,829 patacas, up 7 percent year on year. Five-star hotels charged an average rate of 2,120 patacas, up 4.3 percent. Four-star hotels’ average room rate jumped 13.1 percent to 1,395 patacas.

Meanwhile, the Public Security Police (PSP), which runs the Immigration Department, said in a separate statement that 1,016,123 “tourists” (visitor arrivals) entered Macau between September 30 and October 8, a year-on-year increase of 10.14 percent.

The PSP statement also said that 4.45 million people crossed Macau’s various border checkpoints by land, sea or air during the 9-day period.
