Macau recorded 2.56 million visitor arrivals in February, a year-on-year increase of eight percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Monday.
The daily average of arrivals reached 91,448 during the 28-day month, The Macau Post Daily pointed out.
The first week of last month coincided with the mainland’s so-called Golden Week Chinese New Year holiday.
Same-day visitors accounted for 54 percent of the total.
The number of mainland visitors rose 14 percent to 1.7 million last month.
Mainlanders accounted for 66.9 percent of all visitor arrivals in February. Some 48 percent of all visitor arrivals from the mainland travelled under the Individual Visit Scheme; the remainder were members of tour groups.
Most mainland visitors came from Guangdong (705,357), Zhejiang (60,651) and Fujian (57,881). A total of 53,744 came from Shanghai and 43,805 from Beijing.
The number of Hongkongers visiting Macau dropped 8.4 percent to 551,626, or 21.5 percent of the total.
A total of 12,413 US citizens visited Macau in February, up 2.5 percent year-on-year. Australian visitor arrivals rose 15 percent to 7,556. February also recorded 5,318 Canadian, 4,125 British and 2,027 Russian visitor arrivals.
On average, visitors stayed just one day.
In the first two months of the year, visitor arrivals rose eight percent year-on-year to 5.06 million.(macaunews)
