Thousands of runners are expected to take part in the 2023 Sands China Macao International 10K race, which is co-organised by the Sports Bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macao, on 19 March.

Runners from Kenya and mainland China have been invited to take part this year, with cash prizes of MOP 700,000 waiting to be won.

Bureau President Pun Weng Kun said that the race has become a major sports event in Macao, adding he believed that the race will fully play its role in promoting the city and its “sports tourism”, attracting runners from different regions and countries to compete in the event and promote Macao’s economic development.

The race, which consists of two categories – 10K (10 kilometres) and Fun Run (5 kilometres) – will start at 7:30 am and 7 am respectively from Sai Van Lake Square and end at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Taipa. A total of 10,000 spots are available for this year’s race, comprising 7,000 for the 10K and 3,000 for the Fun Run.

Anyone interested in competing may register for the 10K and Fun Run from 9 am next Saturday and Sunday respectively via the contest’s official website or through the newly launched Macao 10K mobile app.

Applicants must have a personal online registration account for the Macao International 10K or Macao International Marathon. Those who do not have an account can register on the race’s official website, after which they can log into the sign-up system during the registration period, The Macau Post Daily reported.
