Huawei Portugal has launched a new partnership that aims to develop a new generation of Portuguese talent with technological skills.

Aiming to develop national talent in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), Huawei Portugal signed a memorandum of understanding with the DNS.PT Association and the INCoDe.2030 programme.

“Huawei has been working with all stakeholders to leverage the launch of several programmes to support national talent in Portugal,” said Steven Cai, Huawei’s vice-president for Western Europe. He also said that a scholarship programme “that will benefit 50 Portuguese university students should be launched soon.”

The initiative will be carried out with the DNS.PT Association, one of the partners of the Portugal INCoDe.2030 initiative, which aims to improve the country’s positioning and competitiveness and ensure a prominent place in digital skills up to 2030.

Huawei’s goal is to strengthen and consolidate the company’s commitment to developing a new generation of talent with technological skills.

This is Huawei’s latest initiative in the education sector in Portugal, which previously included such schemes as Smart Bus, Seeds for the Future, ICT Academy, and more recently, the 5G lab (5GAIner), which is due to open this year in Aveiro.

The DNS.PT Association, was created in 2013 as a non-profit organisation responsible for administration, operation and maintenance of domain registrations in the .pt top-level domain.

Its founding members are the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP (FCT), the Association for Electronic Commerce and Interactive Advertising and the Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection, CLBrief reported.
