The government will allocate more resources to improve teacher training and school facilities, Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said on Thursday.

Chui made the pledge in a speech at a Teacher’s Day banquet hosted by the Chinese Educators Association of Macau at Fisherman’s Wharf.

“Looking at the teachers here, I recall my memories of my teachers. They inspired me while I was growing up,” Chui said.

“The general public should understand the importance and uniqueness of teachers’ work,” Chui said, pledging to improve the quality of education through legislation and policies. Chui also promised that the government would continue to support the development of special education and vocational education.

Also delivering a speech at the event, Chan Hong, the association’s president, said her association hoped there would be more land earmarked for educational facilities.

The lawmaker-cum-educator also urged the government to strengthen “Love the Country, Love Macau” education, pointing out that her association held two design contests for ‘Love the Country, Love Macau’ educational computer software and PowerPoint presentations on the Macau Basic Law last year.
