The Chief Executive of Macau, Chui Sai On, said in Lisbon that the government plans to open a service centre to link companies from China and the Portuguese-speaking countries and promote economic cooperation, according to the Macau government information Bureau.

“The Government will build a service platform complex for economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking, which in a single building, will gather several elements such as economic and trade exchanges, business services, conventions and exhibitions, cultural events, as well as professional training”, he said.

Speaking to reporters the Chief Executive admits there is no location yet for this building but recently government officials mention the area near the Macau tower as the place of a building dedicated to the relations between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.

The Chief Executive says this is part of Macau’s plan to become a service platform between the two sides.

This announcement comes a month before the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries that will be held in Macau on October 11-12th.

Chui Sai On believes the conference will bring new life into these ties.

The relations between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries is one of the main topics of the talks between Chui Sai On and both the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the prime-minister António Costa that will attend the Forum meeting in November.

Chi Sai On visited Portugal for 3 days at the invitation of the Portuguese president and to attend the meeting of Joint Commission Portugal-Macau. (Macaunews)
