President Xi Jinping will visit Macau in December to attend the swearing-in ceremony of re-elected Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and other principal officials, the Portuguese-language radio channel of government-owned broadcaster TDM reported Tuesday.

The report did not attribute the news to anyone, merely saying that Radio Macau had “confirmed” the visit.
According to the officially unconfirmed report, Xi is also expected to attend celebrations marking the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region on December 20.

Chui and his five-member cabinet of policy secretaries and other principal officials will take their oath of office on December 20.

However, government spokesman Charles Lam Io Pak told The Macau Post Daily last night that he had “no information” about Xi’s visit to Macau.

Xi visited Macau on January 10-11, 2009 in his then capacity as vice-president. Xi’s predecessor Hu Jintao paid a two-day visit to Macau on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the special administrative region on December 20, 2009.(macaunews/macaupost)
