Outgoing Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U and Secretary for Transport and Public Works Lau Si Io will get new jobs. Cheong will be the vice-president of the board of directors of the public Macau Foundation (FM) while Lau will be president of the government-run Macau Science Centre, local Chinese-language monthly All About Macau reported on Sunday.

According to an informed source, Secretary for Administration and Justice Florinda Chan Lai Man and Secretary for Security Cheong Kuoc Va will retire as both have reached public servants’ legal retirement age. Meanwhile, Secretary for Economy and Finance Francis Tam Pak recently told the media that he would consider having a long rest first after he retires.

According to a news report published on Sunday on the Facebook page of All Macau Media – a monthly newspaper which also publishes daily news on its Facebook page – Lau will not return to his original post with the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) but will be appointed president of the board of the directors of the Macau Science Centre which is fully funded by the government.

Before being appointed a policy secretary in 2007 Lau headed the IACM.

According to the report, Cheong will not return to the IACM either where he worked as a senior official before the 1999 handover, then  called Leal Senado (“Loyal Senate”).  Cheong will become the vice-president of  the Macau Foundation, a public entity the funding of which mainly comes from the city’s gaming revenues.

Currently, businessman Peter Lam Kam Seng, a member of Executive Council (ExCo),  heads the Science Centre and is the Macau Foundation’s vice-president.

Meanwhile, the chiefs-of-cabinet of the government’s five new policy secretaries have been confirmed, according to a news report published by Chinese-language  Macao Daily News yesterday.

According to the report, Iao Man Leng, an advisor to Cheong U, will head the office of Secretary for Administration and Justice-designate Sonia Chan Hoi Fan. Karen Lok Kit Sim, chief-of-cabinet of Secretary for Economy and Finance Francis Tam Pak Yuen will remain in her post under his successor Lionel Leong Vai Tak.  Judiciary Police (PJ) Vice-Director Cheong Ioc Ieng will head the office of Secretary for Security-designate Wong Sio  Chak.
Identification Services Bureau (SIM) Director Lai Ieng Kit will head the office of Secretary of Social Affairs and Culture-designate Alexis Tam Chon Weng while Grace Cheong Chui Ling, chief-of-cabinet of the office of Florinda Chan will be the chief-of-cabinet of Secretary for Transport and Public Works-designate Raimundo Rosario.(macaunews/macaupost)
