Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Deputy Head Kao Charng said Monday that the relationship between Taiwan and Macau had entered a “new era” since the renaming of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in July last year.
He made the remark in a speech addressing last night’s banquet at Macau Tower to celebrate the so-called “Double Ten Day” that commemorates the start of the Wuchang Uprising of October 10, 1911, which led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China (ROC) on January 1, 1912.
In his speech, Kao said that stable ties between the mainland and Taiwan had improved the relationship between Taiwan and Macau.
“Especially since of the renaming of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in July last year … which has led to the relationship between of Taiwan and Macau entering a new era,” Kao was quoted as saying by The Macau Post Daily.
The office is Taiwan’s quasi-official representation in Macau.
He also said that Taiwan and Macau should further strengthen cultural exchanges and co-operation in various areas such as trade, the media and the Judiciary.
The original name of the office was Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre.(macaunews)
