The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted the storm warning signal No. 1 at 6 p.m. Monday, as Typhoon Utor moved towards the western coast of Guangdong.
Utor was moving across the South China Sea and was about 610 kilometres south-east of Macau at midnight. The bureau said the storm was now moving in a north-westerly direction at about 25 kilometres per hour and was expected to make landfall in western Guangdong, just north of Hainan, Wednesday night.
The observatory said it expected Macau to experience heavy rain and strong winds today and in the the following few days due to the effects of Utor, adding that it may consider hoisting warning signal No. 3 today.
A spokesperson for the bureau told The Macau Post Daily that there was a chance that signal No. 8 would be hoisted Wednesday and that the rain was expected to subside on Saturday.(macaunews)
