Secretary for Administration and Justice Florinda Chan Lai Man vowed yesterday that the government will strengthen communication with the legislature.
The policy secretary also said that bills which currently are being discussed by the Legislative Assembly (AL) will not be affected by any personnel changes among the government’s top echelons.
Chan made the remarks to reporters on the sidelines of an All Souls’ Day Mass in S. Miguel Arcanjo Cemetery. Chan is a devout Catholic.
Indirectly-elected lawmaker Chan Chak Mo said late last month the government had delayed the submission of a revised bill regulating public servants’ employment contracts to the legislature so he guessed “that the public administration is facing barriers due to the handover from the current to the next government.”
There has been speculation that several of Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On’s top officials – including some of his five policy secretaries – will be replaced by the time he starts his new term on December 20.
Talking to reporters, Chan said the current government was doing its best and the public administration would not be affected by any possible personnel changes.
“I have to stress that any bills [which are under discussion in the legislature] will not be affected if there are any policy secretary changes,” Chan said, adding that the government would co-operate and strengthen communication with the legislature to improve the bills currently under discussion by any of the legislature’s committees.
Chan, who has been in her post for 15 years, is rumoured to be retiring later this year. (macaunews/macaupost)
