Premier Li Keqiang Tuesday met with Macau Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On in Beijing, pledging full support for his government, Xinhua reported.
According to Xinhua, Li praised the Macau government’s achievement in boosting the local economy and improving people’s livelihood as “positive”, saying that the overall situation in Macau was good.
Li also said that the central government would uphold the “One Country, Two Systems” policy and fully support Chui and the Macau government administering the city in accordance with the law.
The decision on “comprehensively deepening reform,” which was announced after a plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) last month, was expected to result in more development opportunities for Macau, the premier said.
More efforts should be made by people from all walks of life in Macau to promote the city’s sustainable development, as well as contribute to the whole country’s modernisation drive, Xinhua quoted Li as saying.
Chui arrived in Beijing on Monday for his annual duty visit. During the four-day stay, Chui will present his 2013 work report and 2014 policy guidelines to the nation’s top leadership, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) said earlier. Informed sources have told The Macau Post Daily that Chui will meet with President Xi Jinping today.
Chui told reporters upon departure to Beijing on Monday the he would also meet with officials from the Foreign Ministry and National Tourism Administration (NTA) to discuss preparations and arrangements for next year’s Tourism Ministerial Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) forum in Macau.
It will be the first time for Macau, which unlike Hong Kong is not an APEC member, to host an APEC-related meeting.
Chui is slated to return to Macau tomorrow. He will preside over the 14th
anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) on Friday. (macaunews)
