The Public Police Security Police (PSP) announced Wednesday the arrest of 34-year-old PSP officer suspected of taking ketamine.

The case has already been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further investigation, according to the announcement.

The PSP said in a statement the officer, surnamed Lou, who began serving in the PSP in 1998, was arrested on Tuesday at the police station where he works in Avenida do Almirante Lacerda after handing in a medical certificate stating he was sick and needed to take a day off.

According to the statement cited by The Macau Post Daily, on seeing Lou, who was off-duty on Tuesday, leaving the police station car park on his scooter and weaving down the road extremely slowly, several PSP officers stopped him from getting too far. On seeing that Lou did not look his usual self the PSP officers suspected he was under the influence of drugs.

After investigation, Lou admitted that he had taken drugs in the mainland several days ago, thus, he was sick and asked for a day off, according to the statement, pointing out that Lou was immediately taken to the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre for drug tests which came back positive for Ketamine.

The PSP said in the statement it was “regretful” that a PSP officer had taken drugs and vowed that it would start a criminal and disciplinary procedure on Lou, stating that the PSP would not condone any PSP officer taking drugs.

According to the statement, Lou was immediately arrested after the result of the drug test came out. The statement said that he would face possible arraignment on drug-taking charges and driving under the influence of drugs (macaunews)
