Macau Travel Industry Council President Andy Wu Keng Kuong said on Tuesday that all package tours to Bangkok and Pattaya until Sunday will be cancelled.

The move came after a deadly bomb explosion, which killed at least 20 people, including two Hong Kong women, in the Thai capital on Monday night.

Speaking to The Macau Post Daily in a phone interview, Wu said there were currently about 20 Macau group tours with some 400 holidaymakers in Bangkok. The government’s Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) said in a statement last night that about 10 tours will be cancelled, involving 250 people.

According to the statement, by last night the office had not received any reports of any death of or injury to Macau residents.

Meanwhile, Air Macau said in a statement on Tuesday that passengers and agents holding its tickets for Bangkok, issued on or before August 18, with travel dates from now to August 23, are allowed to either reroute or change the travel date once at no charge. The revised new travel date must be on or before September 15.

A statement from the Government Information Bureau (GCS) said on Tuesday that Acting Chief Executive Wong Sio Chak had urged “Macau group tours in Bangkok to remain alert and adjust travel plans when necessary, while individual travellers should pay close attention to the situation.”
