Macau and Taipa will not be linked by the Light rail transit system (LRT) before 2018 or 2019, the government announced Friday during a meeting with legislators at the Legislative Assembly.
Lei Chan Tong, coordinator at the Transportation Infrastructure Office, told the legislators on Friday that by July the government would provide all the numbers and information on the LRT.
The initial project was budgeted at 4.2 billion patacas (US$ 525 million) but in 2009 the figure went to 7.5 billion patacas (US$ 937 million).
Two years later, the budget was revised to 11 billion patacas (US$ 1.37 billion).
Taipa would be the first section completed and is schedule to be operational by 2016. Only then will it be linked to the Macau peninsula line.
During the two-hour session at the Legislative Assembly, the government presented the revised plans for the south line of the LRT project – the NAPE area.
The south line of the LRT now starts at the Golden Lotus Square, goes down to Avenida 24 de Junho, Jardim das Artes, Nam Van, Sai Van, Barra and then on to Taipa.( macaunews)
