Election candidates of the Macau legislative assembly must declare all their campaign activities, such as travelling and hosting luncheons and dinners during the campaign period, to the Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Committee, the committee’s President Tong Hio Fong said on Thursday.
The next direct and indirect legislative elections are slated to be held in September 2017.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the committee’s third meeting, at the Public Administration Building in Rua do Campo, Tong said the candidates must declare the content, date and location of their respective campaign activities, adding that his committee will release the details on the committee’s website.
“Uploading [the details of the activities] to the website allows the public to access them,” Tong said. “[The public] will, to a certain extent, be able to play a supervisory role.”
According to a statement by the Government Information Bureau (GCS) afterwards, the Legislative Election Law states that all candidates must submit their campaign activity declarations to the committee by fax, email or in person at least 18 days before polling day.
Citing the recently amended Legislative Election Law, Tong said that officials of the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) were entitled to visit the venues where the campaign activities are being held to check if the activities involve suspected bribery or acceptance of advantages.
