The local government and its Jiangsu counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the creation of a joint task-force for the possible establishment of an industrial zone called “Jiangsu-Macau Co-operation Park”, a statement by the Government Information Bureau (GCS) said on Tuesday.
Speaking during a press conference at the local airport before boarding a flight to the eastern coastal province for a two-day working visit, Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said the joint task-force would carry out feasibility studies on the project and would consider the planned zone’s positioning, functions and management mechanism.
“I want to emphasise that the location and areas of co-operation of the Jiangsu-Macau Co-operation Park have yet to be decided,” Chui said.
The chief executive also said the local government wants to “integrate” Macau into the nation’s overall development and promote the city’s role and functions in the country’s economic development and the opening-up of its economy.
Meanwhile, according to the GCS statement, the two governments also signed an MOU regarding some “learning and exchange projects” for civil servants from both places.
Jiangsu, which has around 80 million inhabitants and covers about 102,600 square kilometres, is part of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, which also encompasses Shanghai and Zhejiang.
