Macau, China, 7 Dec – The government of Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) will build an additional 3,850 public housing units next year, Secretary for Transport and Public Works Lau Si Io said this week.

According to Xinhua, Lau, who made the remark during a plenary meeting of the Legislative Assembly (AL) on Monday, said that the additional public housing units were based on a land reserve dedicated for a total of 6,300 public housing units in the future.

The government will start building the public housing units after development planning of part of the land reserve and public bidding of construction next year, said Lau.

Macau will have a total of 23,100 newly built public housing units for its residents in 2012.

Macau Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On announced in his 2012 Policy Address that the government would plan a reserve of 6,300 public housing units in addition to the 19,000 public housing units to be completed by the end of 2012, in an effort to meet the housing demand of its growing population.
