Xia Baolong visits Hengqin as part of his week-long tour

The central government’s most senior official on Macao affairs was taken to Hengqin Port, a school and a housing development.

The director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Xia Baolong, visited Hengqin yesterday as part of his week-long fact-finding tour.

Xia, who is the central government’s most senior official on Macao affairs, was accompanied by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng began his trip to Hengqin with an inspection tour of Hengqin Port.

Later in the day, he visited the Macao New Neighbourhood project – a housing development of some 4,000 units designed to provide affordable housing for people from Macao living in Hengqin.

Xia also toured Hengqin School, which is affiliated to Macao’s Hou Kong Middle School, where he inspected the school campus and various teaching facilities. He also spoke with representatives of two Macao businesses that have established themselves in Hengqin.

Since arriving in Macao at the start of the week, Xia has held talks with senior officials and legislators, and met leaders of several community organisations.

Xia is in Macao until Sunday. He last visited the territory a year ago.
