Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, will pay a six-day working visit to Beijing from 12 August, the Macao Government Information Bureau (GCS) announced today.
According to a GCS statement, Ho’s delegation of senior government officials will stay in the national capital from 12 August until next Monday for meetings with central government representatives.
The statement said that Ho and his entourage will discuss the development of the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone planned for Hengqin island and exchange views on anti-COVID-19 measures.
Ho, who has headed the local government since 20 December last year, and his delegation will meet with officials from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), People’s Bank of China (PBOC), National Immigration Administration (NIA), General Administration of Customs (GAAC), State Taxation Administration (STA), National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), National Health Commission (NHC), and Ministry of Finance (MOF), according to the statement.
The chief executive’s delegation includes Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office Hoi Lai Fong, Macao Economic Services Bureau (DSE) Director Tai Kin Ip, Macao Monetary Authority (AMCM) Chairman Chan Sau San, and GCS Director Inês Chan Lou.
During Ho’s absence, Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon will be Macao’s acting chief executive.
Macao confirmed its first COVID-19 case on 22 January. Macao has recorded 46 novel coronavirus disease patients, all of whom have meanwhile been cured and discharged from hospital.
The government has bought over 100 million facemasks for Macao residents and non-resident workers since late January. Macao’s population stood at 685,400 at the end of June, according to official statistics.
