Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has begun a four-day visit to Portugal by attending a conference to promote investment and tourism in Macao.
Ho and his entourage arrived in Lisbon at noon local time on Wednesday, according to an official statement. He was greeted by the Portuguese foreign ministry’s deputy protocol chief, José Carlos Arsénio, and the Chinese ambassador Zhao Bentang, before travelling from the airport to the Praça do Comércio.
At the square, located in the heart of the Portuguese capital, Ho reviewed the “Experience Macao Unlimited” display organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office, and then attended the Macao-Portugal Investment and Tourism Promotion Conference.

Two agreements were signed at the event: a cooperation memorandum between the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute; and a commercial cooperation agreement between the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Portugal and the Macao Chamber of Commerce.
The conference also featured business-matching sessions for entrepreneurs from Macao and Portugal.
Ho is due to meet President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa today and will be in Lisbon until 22 April before travelling to the European Commission and making a fact-finding visit to Luxembourg to study Europe’s biggest bond market.
