The government has thanked voters for turning out, and staff for their hard work, at the 7th Legislative Assembly elections.

An official statement noted that the election was held successfully, in a smooth and orderly way, and in a lawful, fair, open and clean manner.

The direct and indirect elections were held amid a challenging situation in Macao and neighbouring cities brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the government said.

“Not only was it necessary to ensure the elections were held in a lawful and orderly way, but the event also had to be organised in strict adherence to anti-epidemic guidelines issued by the Health Bureau. In addition, on polling day, the weather was very hot with showers,” it said.

Under such circumstances, over 100,000 voters cast their ballots on Sunday to exercise their civic duty, the government said, expressing its gratitude for their involvement.

The government also thanked the more than 3,000 civil servants who assisted with the poll, The Macau Post Daily reported.
