Economist Echo Chan Keng Hong has been re-appointed as Deputy Secretary General of the Forum Macau representing the Macau government, according to an official government statement.

Echo Chan left the Forum Macau for personal reasons in October 2015 but returned to Macau as an adviser for the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Leong Vai Tac, before the Ministerial Conference of the Forum Macau in October 2016.

Echo Chan will substitute Cristina Morais, a high ranking official from the Department of External Economic Relations of the Macau Economic Office who served her post for one year after Chan’s departure in October 2015.

Before Echo Chan’s appointment at the Forum Macau in March 2015, she was a director at the Macau Institute for Promotion of Trade and Investment (IPIM).

Echo Chan graduated with an economics degree from the University of Jinan, China, and has a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Macau. She also holds a Portuguese Language diploma from the University of Coimbra in Portugal.

Echo Chan was also a coordinator of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Industrial and Scientific Park, as well as Chair of the Board of Directors of the “Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development” and was director of Macau Investment and Development.

The Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macau), known as Forum Macau, was created in October 2003 through a Chinese government initiative, in coordination with seven Portuguese-speaking countries, namely Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste and with the support of the Government of the Macau Special Administrative Region.

The Forum Macau is a multilateral cooperation mechanism aimed at the consolidation of economic and trade exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, using Macau as a connecting platform.
