Central Districts Community Service Consultative Council members Huang Wei and Ho Kuai Seng Wednesday urged the government to help community associations, schools and private enterprises train their members, pupils and staff to improve their knowledge of national security so that they can join special teams to promote the protection of national security in their communities.
The pair made the appeal during a regular meeting of the government-appointed council at the Patane Market Municipal Complex. Huang spoke in his own name and on behalf of Ho during the meeting.
Huang said that Macau’s first-ever “National Security Education Exhibition” – which ended early this week – was a “good start” in increasing residents’ awareness of the protection of national security.
The exhibition, which opened on April 15 and ended on Monday, was jointly hosted by the local government and the Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau. It aimed to promote understanding of the overall national security outlook outlined by President Xi Jinping, apart from demonstrating the ongoing efforts and achievements made by the local government for the protection of national security.
Huang quoted the government as saying that the 16-day exhibition attracted many residents as well as many associations, schools and government entities who organised their members, pupils and public servants respectively to visit the exhibition at the Macau Handover Gifts Museum in Nape.
Huang noted that according to official statistics more than 18,000 people visited the national security education exhibition and that the official website about the exhibition (http://eesn.gov.mo) recorded over 200,000 visits over the 16 days.
The website, which is available only in the Chinese language, is still accessible. The website shows the exhibition’s 60 display boards.
Huang said that in order to put the various speeches made by Xi about strengthening national security education into practice locally, the exhibition’s display boards should now be exhibited on the premises of community associations, schools and other organisations and entities across the city.
Huang also urged the government to help community associations, social organisations, schools and enterprises train in-house teams to promote national security. He said that the specially trained teams could then promote the protection of national security in their communities “on a regular basis” throughout the whole year so that the concept would be widely disseminated across Macau.
