Chief Executive Chui Sai On has called on government officials to abide by the aspirations set out by President Xi Jinping, in order to lead Macau to grasp opportunities that arise from the country’s reform and opening-up policies.
According to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS), Chui briefed dozens of senior officials during a so-called sharing session on Friday on Xi’s speeches on last year’s 40th anniversary of the nation’s reform and opening up.
Xi’s speeches on the country’s reform and opening up had spelt out new visions for national development, Chui said, adding that the aspirations outlined in those speeches served as fresh guidance for Macau’s development.
Chui delivered the keynote address during the session hosted by his office, aiming to promote a better understanding in Macau of the major principles and strategies in the central authorities’ reform and opening-up policies for a new era of prosperity. The session was held at the Macau East Asian Games Dome in Cotai and attended by some 180 senior officials, including principal officials and bureau directors, according to the statement.
The session addressed the aspirations outlined in key speeches made by the president at various gatherings to mark the 40th anniversary of the country’s reform and opening up.
Last year marked the 40th anniversary of the implementation of reform and opening-up policies by the central authorities, Chui noted.
Xi had delivered a raft of speeches at 40th anniversary-related events – including, in particular, at a gathering held in Beijing on December 18 – as well as at a meeting on November 12 that involved official delegations from Hong Kong and Macau, the statement pointed out.
According to Chui, Xi’s speeches not only reaffirmed Macau’s important role and invaluable contributions during the reform and opening-up process over the past 40 years, but also expressed the country’s expectations and confidence regarding Macau’s future development.
Chui noted that in his anniversary speeches Xi underlined Macau’s special advantages and unique role, and how they were essential to the process of the country’s reform and opening up.
During Friday’s session, Chui shared his understanding of topics in Xi’s speeches concerning international affairs, the country’s development, and Macau’s strategic role.
According to the statement, Chui urged the officials to step up efforts to implement Xi’s four aspirations for Macau – 1) that it play a more active role in the nation’s reform and opening-up process; 2) that it should diligently integrate its development with the country’s overall progress; 3) that it should make greater contributions to the country’s governance system; and 4) that it should facilitate people-to-people exchanges at an international level.
In addition, according to the statement, Chui pledged in his speech that the local government would further develop its youth policies – regarding education, employment and self-improvement – in line with the president’s guidance, in order to ensure young people’s healthy development, and help cultivate their particular strengths.
