Chinese President Hu Jintao praised the Hong Kong and Macau Pavilions in the Shanghai World Expo for the “innovative designs and their own unique characteristics”.

The Hong Kong and Macau delegations, led respectively by Chief Executives Donald Tsang Yam Kuen and Fernando Chui Sai On, arrived in Shanghai Friday for the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Expo on the following day.

President Hu Jintao met with the two official delegations in the afternoon. Vice-President Xi Jinping also joined the meeting.

He said the two pavilions “fully displays the achievements and potential of Hong Kong and Macau.

“With the great importance attached by the Hong Kong and Macau SAR Governments, the Hong Kong and Macau Pavilions of the Shanghai World Expo are well built, innovative and have their own different characteristics,” the Chinese President said.

He believed under the “great support of the central government, the leadership and the Hong Kong and Macau SAR Governments as well as the unity of Hong Kong and Macau people”, the future of the two SARs must get “better and better”.
