Two individuals will separately hold a demonstration tomorrow – International Workers’ Day, according to a statement by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Monday.
The statement did not mention the gender of the two individuals, merely saying that they are local residents.
According to the statement, the two individuals and a group have informed the police about the organisations of their own protests. However, the group informed the police on Monday morning that it would cancel its demonstration, according to the statement.
According to the law regulating assemblies and demonstrations, groups or individuals who plan to hold an assembly or demonstration are required to inform the Public Security Police by letter between three and 15 working days in advance.
According to the statement, one of the two individuals will march from Triangle Garden at 2 p.m. The lone protestor will first submit a copy of his or her petition to the Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau in Zape, before continuing his or her march and finally submitting his or her petition to Government Headquarters in Nam Van.
The other individual will march from Avenida da Ponte da Amizade at 2:30 p.m. and will submit his or her petition to Government Headquarters in Nam Van, according to the statement.
Avenida da Ponte da Amizade in Areia Preta district is near where the ill-fated Pearl Horizon residential project and the office of the project’s developer – Polytex – are located.
Pre-sale buyers of the meanwhile cancelled project have held a string of protests and handed a number of petitions to local and central government officials over the past few years.
