The Housing Bureau (IHM) said in a statement Tuesday that up to Monday it had received a total of 13,299 applications for 1,544 one-bedroom flats under the government-subsidised home ownership scheme (HOS), an oversubscription of about eight times the number on offer.
The bureau said in the statement cited by The Macau Post Daily that the 1,544 flats are in the Ip Heng Building which is part of the huge Seac Pai Van public housing estate, which comprises about 9,000 HOS units and low-rental social housing flats.
According to the statement, of the 13,299 applications 23 percent, or 3,033, are families and the remaining 10,266 are individuals.
The bureau reminded the public in the statement that today is the last day of the three-month application.
Residents and civic leaders have criticised the government for not building enough public housing flats to tackle the city’s housing problem caused by extremely high property prices in the private building sector. (macaunews)
