The Municipal Affairs and Civic Bureau (IACM) said in a statement Thursday that about 7,600 live chickens and 1,900 live pigeons will be on sale today after a 21-day ban on the import of live poultry came to end yesterday.

The bureau said that IACM staff had confirmed that the birds are virus free after random-testing them.

The bureau also said that its staffers would continue to supervise the cleanliness of the city’s live stock stalls, as well as the health of the workers.

The three-week ban on importing live poultry began on March 13 after the bureau announced that its staff had detected the H7-type avian flu virus in test samples of 1,000 live chickens that were imported from a farm in Zhuhai’s Doumen district.
