Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai will attend today a Q&A session in the legislature’s hemicycle in which its 29 sitting lawmakers have the last chance to ask Chui prepared questions on a wide range of hot-button issues.

This is Chui’s second Q&A session in the legislature this year. The first took place in April.

Customarily, lawmakers present their questions in writing to the chief executive at least one week before the Q&A session.

Chui usually visits the legislature to answer lawmakers’ prepared questions three times a year, including when he answers legislators’ questions in November about his policy address for the following year.

The four-year legislative term ends today. The Q&A session will be telecast live by government broadcaster TDM in Cantonese and Portuguese.

Direct and indirect legislative elections will be held on September 15. There are 20 electoral groups with a total of 145 candidates for the 14 directly-elected seats at stake, while there are just 12 candidates for the 12 seats available in the indirect legislative election. There will be two more directly- and two more indirectly-elected seats this time.

The number of the government-appointed lawmakers will remain unchanged at seven. The appointments will be made by Chui shortly after next month’s elections.

Most of current 22 directly and indirectly-elected lawmakers are seeking re-election, according to The Macau Post Daily.(macaunews)
