Secretary for Security Cheong Kuoc Va said Monday he was concerned about the violent terrorist attack on Kunming Railway Station in Yunnan province on Saturday, adding that the local police forces are maintaining close contact with their counterparts in the mainland to fight terrorism.

According to The Macau Post Daily, Cheong made the remarks at the Macau Public Security Forces Academy (ESFSM) in Coloane on the sidelines of a graduation ceremony.

The policy secretary also said the Macau Security Forces had held a number of meetings with the mainland’s law enforcement agencies to exchange information on suspected terrorists activities.

The Office of the Government Spokesperson released a statement Monday where it strongly condemned the Kunming attack, pointing out that the perpetrators attacked innocent civilians in the most horrific manner.

The statemnt said that the local government would wholeheartedly support the central government’s effort to crack down on separatist activities and to impose strict measures to prevent terrorist attacks while protecting civilians’ lives and property.

The government also conveyed its condolences to the families of those who died in the attack and best wishes to those who were injured.

The Macau Public Security Forces Academy held a graduation ceremony for 31 students who completed their training and studies, which they began in the 2009/2010 academic year. Two dozen are staff of the Public Security Police (PSP) while the remainder are staff of the Fire Services (CB).(macaunews)
