An exhibition to mark the 20th founding anniversary of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries – also known as Forum Macao – is running until 20 December.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the exhibition reviews the development of the forum during the past two decades, and showcases its contribution to trade and cooperation between China and the lusophone world.

The exhibition and a related symposium were launched last Friday by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and the vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Ho Hau Wah. Several senior mainland Chinese officials, and representatives from Portuguese-speaking countries, attended.

In his address to the gathering, the chief executive said that Forum Macao leveraged Macao’s unique advantages in linking China with lusophone nations and effectively fostered economic and trade cooperation.

Ji Xianzheng, secretary-general of the permanent secretariat of Forum Macao, said the forum had made tremendous achievements in trade, investment, industrial development, and people-to-people exchanges.

Trade in merchandise between China and Portuguese-speaking countries reached almost US$215 billion in 2022, according to data from China Customs – a 6.3 percent increase year-on-year.
