The first direct high-speed rail between Zhuhai and the Fujian provincial capital of Fuzhou is set to begin operation on 26 January, according to multiple media reports

Known as the G1022 service, the Zhuhai to Fuzhou train will kick off operation at 7:56 am, with the arrival time at Fuzhou South Station scheduled at 2:03 pm.

During the 6-hour 7-minute journey, the bullet train will make stops at 9 stations – Zhongshan, Guangzhou South, Humen, Shenzhen North, Chaoyang, Chaoshan, Zhangzhou, Xiamen North and Putian.

Ticket prices vary depending on the class, with second-class tickets priced at 502.5 yuan. Meanwhile, first-class fares and business fares cost 762.5 yuan and 1,657.5 yuan.

Those travelling from Fuzhou South to Zhuhai can catch the train at 2:27 pm, with the entire journey spanning 5 hours 46 minutes, reaching its destination at 8:13 pm.

Unlike the G1022 service, the G1021 train stops at 8 stations, including Xiamen North, Zhangzhou, Yunxiao, Chaoshan, Shenzhen North, Humen, Guangzhou North and Zhongshan. The fare, however, remains the same as the G1022 route across all three classes.

Rail travel between Zhuhai and Fujian is expected to become more convenient with the inauguration of the new route. Currently, those travelling by train between the two mainland cities are required to make a transfer at either Guangzhou South or Shenzhen North station.

As well, the new line will give people journeying from Zhuhai to Xiamen an extra option, as there is currently only one direct highspeed rail service, D942, that runs from Zhuhai to Xiamen North station.

On the advantages of the direct Zhuhai-Fuzhou bullet train, Lao Ngai Leong, a Macao-based member of the National People’s Congress, told local media that it would be of great convenience for family visits, travel and business, especially in light of the sizeable number of Fujian residents and workers in the SAR.

Macao’s tourism industry is also keen to capitalise on the new direct rail line, with Andy Wu, the head of the Travel Industry Council of Macau, telling TDM that Xiamen, Fujian and Chaoshan are popular tourism routes among local residents.

“The opening of the high-speed rail will provide greater convenience and swifter service,” said Wu. “I believe the tourism industry will come up with more Chaoshan or Eastern Guangdong tour groups…at the same time, you can also go to Fujian, Xiamen and Fuzhou for tourism.”

The new rail’s operation could boost Macao’s visitor arrival rate from Fujian as well. Government data indicates that 597,252 visitors from the province entered the SAR between January and November of 2025, accounting for 2.3 percent of the total number of mainland arrivals in the city.

In a statement cited by local media, the Macao Government Tourism Office said it would look into advertising in the stations along the new route, as well as on online platforms.

The office added that it would encourage cooperation between Macao’s tourism sector and Fujian province’s main international travel agencies to launch tourism routes that showcase Macao and Fujian’s uniqueness and attract international visitors to engage in multi-destination travel between the two locations.
