A newborn girl was discovered in a restaurant’s toilet in a hotel in Nam Van Tuesday afternoon and was pronounced dead at the public hospital, said the Judiciary Police (PJ).

According to Macau Post Daily, the Public Security Police (PSP) identified the restaurant as Royal Kitchen on the ninth floor of Grand Emperor Hotel.

According to the PJ statement, the baby was found in a rubbish bin by a female cleaner at 2:10 p.m. when she was cleaning the toilets. The baby was inside a transparent plastic bag when she was found.

The baby, with her umbilical cord still attached, was taken to the public Conde Sao Januario Hospital Centre where she was pronounced dead after emergency treatment, the PJ statement said.

PSP officers later transferred the case to the PJ for further investigation.

The cause of death of the baby is yet to be established, the PJ statement said.
