The Macau government lifted on Tuesday a ban on poultry and poultry product imports from seven countries – South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Indonesia – and four regions – Taiwan, Guangxi, Hubei, and Hunan.
The termination of the import ban was published in the Official Gazette (BO) Monday.
Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On signed an executive order to lift the ban which had been ordered by his predecessor Edmund Ho Hau Wah on January 29, 2004 as a “preventive measure” to protect the local population from the potentially fatal H5N1 bird flu virus, which was rampant in various countries and regions in Asia at that time.
