The Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) has inaugurated its new Faculty of Innovation Engineering, which is made up of the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Engineering Science, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering.
Speaking after the event, MUST Vice President Professor Pang Chuan said that the university will allocate more resources to “encourage innovation”, and aims to integrate the Faculty of IT and the Institute of Environment Studies and Institute for System Engineering”.
Pang added that new programmes would be launched for the new faculty such as Material Science and Engineering, adding that the new faculty would also “facilitate the diversification of Macao’s economy” in the future.
Pang said that he thought that the university was set to receive “a few more [applications] than last year”. Pang noted that as most of the university’s applicants are from the mainland, applications for the Bachelor’s programme will start around mid-May. “We are confident that we [will] have more applicants and [they] will be of high quality,” Pang said.
The new faculty’s inauguration took place after the Ceremony for Conferment of Honorary Doctoral Degrees in the university’s Grand Auditorium in Taipa.
In attendance were Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U, who represented Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao Zheng Xincong, Chancellor and Chairman of the University Council Liu Chak Wan and MUST Foundation Trust Committee Chairman Chui Sai Cheong, The Macau Post Daily reported.
