Purchases of flu and cough medicines across Macao have been limited to a box or bottle of analgesic and antipyretic medication, a box or bottle of cold medicine, a box or bottle of cough medicine, as well as 10 rapid antigen test (RAT) kits per person for each purchase, the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau (ISAF) announced yesterday.
The purchase limit aims to ensure most people in Macao can get enough anti-pandemic drugs, according to the announcement, which was made just as many pharmacies in the city have run out of flu-related medicines, namely analgesic and antipyretic drugs.
These medicine shortages have also become a problem in the neighbouring regions recently.
The ISAF has coordinated with pharmacies to ensure a stable supply of medicines and enforce the purchase limit measures in Macao.
According to ISAF, medicine importers have vowed that they would make an effort to purchase medicines from different places to increase imports and speed up logistics to supply pharmacies in Macao more quickly and guarantee the supply of related medicines in order to meet the population’s demands as much as possible.
The bureau has also warned local pharmacies not to raise prices unreasonably when stocking up anti-pandemic drugs and other related medical products.
